The earliest record of asparagus grown in California was in the northern Delta in 1852. Beginning in 1900, trainloads of asparagus were sent east, and to fill the growing demand, by 1903 nearly 6,000 acres were planted with asparagus in the San Joaquin-Sacramento Delta region alone.
You really seem to have a handle on the Stockton area. If I get anyone looking to move north of the Bay Area (you are on my list to call).
